A simple guide for ordering court transcripts in every Canadian province and territory
Court transcripts are often required for appeals, judicial reviews, complaint processes, or simply to confirm what was said in a hearing. Each province and territory follows its own system, and the process can be confusing.

Who prepares transcripts: Alberta courts prepare transcripts directly through the provincial online system.
What you need: Court level (Provincial Court, Court of King's Bench, or Court of Appeal); hearing date, start and end times; courtroom number and location; docket or action number; party names; initiating documents (e.g. Statement of Claim or Notice of Motion); endorsement sheets from the clerk or judge.
How to order: Visit the Alberta Transcript Management Services website; create an account and select Order a Transcript; upload required documents and complete the form; pay by credit card. The transcript is delivered as a PDF download.
Typical cost: Pricing is based on number of characters and turnaround time. Regular service is the lowest rate, with higher fees for rush service.

Who prepares transcripts: Courts do not prepare transcripts. You must hire an approved private transcription company.
Information required: Court level (Provincial Court or Supreme Court); hearing date; court file number.

Process: Contact the company serving your courthouse; provide case details; receive a fee estimate; pay deposit and the company will obtain audio from the court.
Who prepares transcripts: Transcription Services Unit of Manitoba Courts.
Required details: Title of proceedings; hearing date; court file number.
How to order: Complete the Request by a Self-Represented Person for a Transcript form; submit by email, fax, or in person.

Who prepares transcripts: Family and criminal matters: prepared by the court. Civil matters: prepared by a private stenographer.
Steps: Download the Transcript Order Form from the provincial website; provide court, case name, file number, and date; for civil cases, name the private stenographer you choose.
Fees: Family and criminal about $3 per page; civil set by the stenographer. Contact: justice.info@gnb.ca.
System: Courts provide audio recordings only. You must hire a private transcriptionist to create the written transcript.
Steps: Request the audio from Provincial Court or Supreme Court; pay $20 for the recording; deliver the audio to a transcription service of your choice.

Who prepares transcripts: Court Reporters' Office in Yellowknife.

System: You first order an audio recording from the court, then hire a Certified Transcriber.

Who prepares transcripts: Only Authorized Court Transcriptionists may prepare transcripts.
How to order: We recommend ordering from a Authorized Court Transcriptionist found on the home page of transcriptfinder.com. You will provide the case details, required delivery date. The transcriptionist will confirm the order and will submit the order to the court for the recording(s) to transcribe.
System: Order audio from the court, then use a private transcriptionist.
Steps: Request audio CD from courthouse and pay $20; hire a certified transcription service to prepare the transcript.

Options: Order transcript through courthouse, or hire a private stenographer after purchasing the audio.
Audio cost: Approximately $8.95 for the first 25 minutes plus $0.30 per additional minute.

Who prepares transcripts: Ministry of Justice Transcript Services.
Steps: Obtain Court Transcript Request Form from any courthouse or by email; submit to Transcript Services office in Regina.
